Adding Links from Shelf Item Records

There are times you may wish to add a link from a shelf item record.

For example, when you are providing links to specific issues of an electronic journal or various versions of an electronic document.

Tip:

  1. Select FILE>New>Catalogue

  2. Complete the Catalogue tab screen record as required

  3. Open Catalogue record to Shelf tab, right-click in the Shelf Item summary grid and select Add Shelf Item

  4. Click YES to save the catalogue record

  5. The Add Shelf Item screen is displayed

  6. Delete default Barcode if displayed

  7. Enter Year, Volume, Part/Edition and Copy data as required

  8. Enter 'Electronic' in the Location field

  9. Delete default Status 'On Shelf' if displayed

  10. Select a relevant category from the Link Category pop-up list. This will determine which icon will represent the hyperlink on OPAC

  1. Select a relevant type from the Link Type pop-up list

  2. [Tab] or place cursor in the Address field. The selected URL leader is displayed. Enter remaining URL (Universal Resource Locator) path in the Address field.

Tips:

  • When you select the Category ‘Catalogue Record’, the correct stem of the url is entered automatically into the Address text box.

  • Where the address of your FIRST OPAC directory is not displayed automatically you will need to:

  1. Select UTILITIES>Preferences>System Properties

  2. Select 'CatalogueRecordLinkTemplate' from the Property list

  3. Enter the relevant web server address of your web server in the Value text box in the format http://[webserver]/[webbappl]/fullRecord.jsp?recno=

  4. Click SAVE

  1. Enter Notes as required

  2. Close and save the shelf item

  3. A summary of the shelf item added is displayed in the Shelf summary window displayed at the bottom of the Shelf tab screen. Double click on the item to edit link details
